Adjusting Virtual Memory
To adjust virtual memory settings:
1) To allow Windows to manage the virtual memory, select the 'Let Windows manage the virtual memory settings (recommended)' radio button.
NOTE: This option lets Windows dynamically allocate disk space to serve as virtual memory as required.
2) Select the 'Let me specify my own virtual memory settings' radio button.
a) To manually specify virtual memory settings:
1] Type the letter of the hard disk on which the swap file is to be created.
NOTE: The disk with the most free space and fastest CPU should be selected.
2] Type the minimum size of the swap file in the ' Minimum' list box.
3] Type the maximum size of the swap file in the 'Maximum' list box.
CAUTION: It is advisable to let Windows adjust the virtual memory settings automatically. Manually adjusting settings should be done by a qualified computer technician.
NOTE: The size of the swap file depends on how much RAM the computer has. For example, if the computer has 4 MB of RAM, at least 10 MB of free disk space is required for a swap file. If the computer has 16 MB of RAM, very little disk space is required for a swap file. It is recommended to set the swap file as large as possible.
b) To disable the swap file, click 'Disable virtual memory (not recommended)'.
CAUTION: Choosing this option may cause the computer to stop completely or may degrade system performance. Do not choose this option unless specifically instructed to do so by a qualified computer technician or next-level support.
